Skull Coast Typhoon Windswept Wheat IPA

When the new brewery opens this Summer, we will be rolling with a new American Wheat IPA: Typhoon Windswept Wheat IPA. This particular beer is also under consideration for the second beer that we put in our craft cans. (For those that don't know, Gallows Point Dead Man's Porter -- our Chocolate Macadamia Nut Imperial Porter -- will absolutely be canned first.)

Typhoon will be a be a blend of an American Wheat beer and a traditional IPA. It will be hopped and dry-hopped with a blend of the finest Northwest hops and probably come in a little over 6% ABV. It will be both refreshing and hoppy: perfect for the Summer and perhaps year-round.

U.P.C Bar Codes for Craft Cans

Diving into the whole world of U.P.C. bar codes today for our craft beer cans. For those that don't know, U.P.C. stands for, Universal Product Code. The codes themselves originate from an organization called the Universal Code Council (UCC). For a fee, companies like GS1 designate specific code numbers for each package to assist retail stores speed up the checkout process and keep track of inventory.

It's a bit of a process. And, what I didn't know is that you have to specifically measure the product's package for the stores to know shelf requirements. I found that kind of interesting and has forced us to once again think about 16oz cans vs. 12oz. cans. Since they have different heights, it puts us in a situation of making a decision now. While the Cask Canning line can be easily switch from 16oz. to 120z., this additional factor in the specs of the package for the U.P.C. codes was an eye-opener.

But, in talking to Mark, I think we are pretty firm on the 12oz. cans.
